WINTER SAFETY BULLETIN

CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY

The  members of the North Syracuse Fire Department are Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to respond to emergencies within our community and to assist neighboring departments and their communities, however the best emergency is the one that never occurred or was prevented.  The second best emergency is one where no one was injured because the people involved were educated and knew what to do.

The North Syracuse Fire Department has an extensive and ongoing fire safety and awareness program which our members volunteer additional time to perform all matters of public education and safety awareness.

Always Yield To Oncoming Emergency Vehicles!!!

Fire Trucks, Ambulances and Police Vehicles are often larger, heavier, more powerful and harder to maneuver than regular cars.  Although emergency vehicle drivers receive extensive training, these vehicles often can not turn or stop quickly so please always yield to emergency vehicles that have their emergency lights and sirens on.  If you can, pull safely onto the shoulder of the road and wait for the emergency vehicle to pass no matter if it is coming up behind you or in the opposite lane of traffic.  Never try to out run an emergency vehicle through an intersection.

The majority of Onondaga County including 100% of the North Syracuse Fire Department is Volunteer which means members often are called to duty while they are at home, work, or doing other day to day activities and they respond to the fire station in there personal vehicles.  Please yield to volunteers with their blue lights on, seconds matter in an emergency !
