Goals and Objectives of Program:
The term "bunk-in" represents a unique community service opportunity with the North Syracuse Fire Department. The "bunk-in" is a person who serves the department and a community in a volunteer capacity as a "live-in" or "residential" firefighter and emergency medical responder. In return, the fire department provides living accommodations for bunk-ins. All bunk-ins must be students in the Fire Protection Technology curriculum at Onondaga Community College and live outside of Onondaga County, New York.
| Obligations: 1. Enter into a written contract with the North Syracuse Fire Department stipulating duties and responsibilities. 2. Maintain grounds, living area, and facilities at the station that the bunk-in is assigned to. 3. Fulfill duty schedule that consists of a 12 (twelve)-hour shift, every three days. 4. Bunk-ins will be expected to respond to all emergency alarms when in quarters, unless it is 60 minutes or less before class or employment. 5. Maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA at Onondaga Community College. 6. Attend a specified amount (minimal) of fire and emergency training as required by New York State, or the North Syracuse Fire Department. 7. Attend weekly training sessions.
